Job opening for climate data analyst at CIESIN/Columbia University

The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) of the Earth Institute at Columbia University has an immediate opening for a Senior Research Staff Assistant to support climate data analysis activities within the USAID-funded African and Latin American Resilience to Climate Change (ARCC) Program.

ARCC supports the Economic Growth objective within the USAID Foreign Assistance Framework by promoting adaptation to climate change, and integration of adaptation into other economic investments, in order to safeguard and motivate sustainable, climate-resilient growth. The project provides technical, analytical, and project assistance, as well as capacity building, to promote adaptation to climate change to improve the ability of vulnerable populations to respond to climate challenges in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean.

Minimum qualifications: BA in meteorology, climatology or related fields required and up to 2 years of related experience required.  Demonstrated analytical skills, quantitative data analysis capabilities and experience with analysis of large climate datasets. Good writing skills. Willingness to travel to developing countries. Excellent communication skills.

Preferred qualifications: MSc in meteorology, climatology or related fields preferred. Understanding/prior experience with climate models and model output analysis; understanding/experience with climate change projections and downscaling techniques; experience with regional modeling is a plus; experience with impact models (crops, hydrology etc.) is a plus. Ability/willingness to work in a team and in multidisciplinary environments; experience of work in multidisciplinary environments is a plus. Proficiency in Spanish or French is a plus.
